Qualifying for STATE!

Utah County Invitational...

Jac had one goal...QUALIFY for STATE!
This was the day :)

The mile was first...she was strong and ran a great race, even though she had ran over 45 miles this week!

Jac and Candice are great competition for each other...
Jac was determined to finish strong!

And she did!
As you can see it was a VERY CLOSE race :)

Grandma and Grandpa Heaps were there to see her victory of  getting a
5:18!
Yep, she qualified for State!

Congrats  :)

the 2 mile....

Jac has learned that she has to run HER race and that's exactly what she did!

It was so fun to see her in the front pack looking so strong!

Jac finished in 4th place with an altitude PR of...
11:16!
Yep, she qualified for State!

As you can see, these girls have a lot of fun together!

Congrats on making your goals Jac!!

Breaking 5!

Thomas has had the goal of running the mile in under 5 minutes...

TODAY was the day
on a post-it-note was written his strategy...

Breakfast - Protein drink, blueberry pancake
Flex time - Goolosh (a peanut butter oatmeal thing) banana
After/ before warm-up - sip Odwalla
right before race - swig Odwalla
After 4:59 mile - finish Odwalla/Costco protein drink

He wanted to do everything PERFECTLY!
It became a race between two 7th graders
(even though there were 8th and 9th graders running too!)

It was a fight to the end!

They ran an INCREDIBLE race!
Thomas came in 2nd place with a 4:56!
The Orem High Coach said he had NEVER seen such a close race ran by two 7th graders!
The Alpine Days' record is a 5:06... I have a feeling things are going to change :)

Spring Soccer is here!

Thomas' other love...

So far they've won 3 out of 4 games
Looks like a great season!

CALIFORNIA

How was our trip?
I think this picture pretty much says it all...

We love it when Jac has races in warm places :)

This is what we saw on our morning run!
Peacocks had free rein in this neighborhood!

We enjoyed visiting the Los Angeles temple
The visitors center has a clean water display with a water jug Matt brought all the way back from Africa.

We stayed in the lovely Motel 6... who can beat $60.00 a night?
The one in Arcadia was older and very stinky! It was a challenge to appreciate! Emily didn't want to touch anything! We even brought our car fresheners in to help calm the smell of cigarettes. (in our non-smoking room!)
By the time we got to the Newport Motel 6 we were in HEAVEN! It was much nicer and cleaner. The kids kept saying "It smells so good!"

Bonelli Park...another favorite running spot!

Newport Temple

Happy Easter!
The kids had an egg hunt on the beach...yes, they humored good ol' mom and actually survived the embarrassment :) (anything for money!)

We walked around and enjoyed watching the seals and dolphins

Monday and Tuesday were spent enjoying running on the beach and enjoying the sunshine!
It's official...Thomas has MAN HAIR!
Congrats :)

Jac took these AMAZING pictures of the sunset!
These have NOT been altered by photoshop! :)

Emily was in heaven!

Even push-ups are funner on the beach!
 PURE AWESOMENESS!

Some favorite quotes:

"THAT IS SO DISTURBING" Emily

"Hey, CHANCHO" Thomas

"Hope ya feeling good to your knuckle bones" Crazy man on the street

"Oh look at the baby cows in their NATURAL HABITAT!" Jac

Arcadia

Jac qualified for the Seeded heat in the Arcadia Invitational in California
This meet is huge! Top runners from across the country were there to show their stuff!
Our Jac was one of them!
She ran the 2 mile and got an 11:04!
Beating the school record by 9 seconds!
 a 15 second PR!

We cheered on another Lehi Pioneer, Jordan Peterson who ran the 100.
A great way to start off our Spring Break!
