Thomas' 5k Fun Run

Often times when people talk about Scouts earning their Eagle, the credit is given to the Mom and Dad for all their hard work.
Yes, Mom and Dad have helped Thomas along the way but I can honestly say that Thomas has taken his scouting into his own hands and has made this eagle project his own! He has shown great responsibility as he has just finished the first phase of his project:
a 5k Fun Run/Walk for Courage Reins; a non-profit dedicated to helping people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding.

These are a few of the amazing ladies from Courage Reins who came to help out with the race.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. We had about 50 people show up for the fun :)

There was a kids 100 meter dash which 4 year old Chase Jones proudly won 1st place in his age group! His mom Leesa, won 1st place in the 5k...must run in the family ;)

Emily decided to run in her crocs! She ran the dash winning 3rd place overall!
She wasn't through...she ran the 5k and came in 1st place for her age! Brother Crandall in our ward said he had a piece of "humble pie" while running this race. He explained "Emily passed me 5 times!"

Dave and Abi came to support Thomas and they took 1st place for their age category too!

We appreciate all the support the Heaps family showed by coming out so early on a Saturday morning.

Thanks to EVERYONE who came to support Thomas and this great organization!

The money earned will go towards the materials needed to help build a fence as well as other much needed projects for their property.
Now for phase two...the actual work at Courage Reins :)

Regions 2012

There are a lot of lessons learned while competing. Lessons that create and mold and us into the people we are to become...It's in working through these moments that make us STRONGER!

DAY 1:
The MILE: 4th Place!
Look at the stress Jac has on her face...not her best race mentally or physically

DAY 2:
The 2 MILE: 4th Place!
Look at her face...a look of determination, confidence...a MUCH BETTER race :)
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!
It was a windy day so times went out the door. The goal was for PLACE...the better the place the higher the points for the team!

Maddi, Jac, Emily

The 800: 3rd place!
Jac was excited and happy for this race, bouncing up and down at the starting line :)

As Matt says..."A HAPPY RUNNER IS A FAST RUNNER!"
It was a very exciting race...

She ran hard and gave it her all!

Her determination helped her pass the AF girl at the very end!

Jac, Kaylie, Ali, Emily and Min

The 4x4 RELAY 3rd place!
Jac had so much fun on this race :)

She even got a PR of 65 seconds!

THIS is the smile we love to see!

Congratulations Jac! We are so proud of you!!!

I think this is a favorite!
Coach Rowe is playing the part of the losing team :)

Jac has qualified for STATE in the:
mile
 2 mile
800

NEW BLOG

As you all know, running is a big part of the Heaps family :)
Through the years we have learned a few things to help us and our kids run better and stronger.

If you know Matt you know that he has a passion for doing things the RIGHT way which means he searches for answers by seeking advice from the experts...

There is so much information out there it's hard to know where to begin!

We have found some things to be very helpful...some not so helpful :) SO, Matt decided to create a new blog sharing the things that work for us.

Feel free to check out his new blog at http://runningtipsfromdad.blogspot.com/ And let us know what you think...We are hoping it will help anyone wanting to help themselves and/or their kids be better, healthier, and stronger runners.

ENJOY :)
