3rd Day of Chemo

Emily is still tolerating the chemo very well and making all the nurses laugh. At times she stands on her bed, jumps up and down and sings to the top of her lungs. At other times she dances and twirls, which is pretty impressive when you consider all the lines she’s constantly hooked up to. One of the nurses told the new nurse coming on duty that “…this little girl has more personality in her pinky finger than most of us do in our whole body.” Emily has a way of lighting up the place she is and a hospital room is no exception. After taking a bath and cuddling in towels with her dad singing “You are my Sunshine”, she continued to carry on with the song as she walked down the hallway. Nurses and patients were smiling as they heard a little six year old singing this timeless song. I thought of the irony this presented as Emily sang about love and sunshine in a place where so many heads are bowed and hearts are heavy. Emily also enjoyed visiting with her Bishop and his wife who brought up some ice cream and pizza that Emily actually ate. For those familiar with chemo you realize what a miracle that is! Her cousins (the Buhrley's) along with Grandpa Whiting also visited and lifted her spirits. - Matt
